about Maham

Maham Qureshi is a visual artist currently based in London, United Kingdom. She is currently pursuing her Masters in Fine Art from the University of East London. Her practice examines the relationship between the body, ritual and intimate spaces. Often drawing from the bathroom as a site, Maham is interested in ideas of purification, the physical act of cleansing and when broader belief systems intersect. She enjoys working primarily in sculpture and performance, where one informs the other and allows, while making, the gestures of the body to manifest through material.

Maham's association with the Karachi Biennale Trust has continued to inform her thinking and practice. She has taken many roles in the organisation, managing multiple projects as the Communications Lead, Educational Programming Coordinator and Hospitality Coordinator.

Alongside her studio practice and work with the Biennale, Maham is deeply committed to art education. She began teaching in 2018 and has since worked at several prominent institutions across Karachi, including Cedar College, St. Michael’s Convent School, and Eden College. Maham enjoys developing interdisciplinary programs that bring art into classrooms and engage young audiences in conversations around contemporary practice.

Rooted in Karachi’s restless urban landscape, Maham’s work reflects her search for stillness in the anxiety of the city, using materials and spaces to explore how the body remembers, performs, and purifies.
