My work starts with thinking about the body through the spaces it occupies, navigates through and leaves behind. Over the past few months, I have been collecting objects that once belonged in other people's private spaces, objects I was drawn to and caught my attention. Old shower cubicles, separated and no longer in cubes, mirrors that once belonged to closets, mirrors on their own, a sweet scratch here or there, sink basins, some with their attachments, some without, tubs, cut in half and full-sized, a couple fixtures here and there. In all honesty, I did not know what could become of them but I knew they could find purpose elsewhere. I travelled across the London boroughs, collecting them from people's homes, backyards, frontyards, carrying them back to my studio, looking (a tad bit) stupid, but normal enough not to get too many stares.

The objects I find are often old and discarded, new and unneeded, almost saved from the skip, I'd like to believe I'm rewriting their destinies. They often sit in my studio for months, sometimes days, while I enjoy the layers of marks, earth, fingerprints, limescale they develop. Oftentime, it is the space that decides what happens to the object and the interventions I make, additions and subtractions of dust, water, soap (or the closest things to them?) and I let the materials naturally settle and exist.

In this series, the imagined, the lived, the uncanny, I am looking at the bathroom as a heterotopia. The way the reflections, light, their positioning, scent, all make you wonder whether you really are here? I've been intently fascinated with the parallel universe and oftentimes, when I'm looking at space, I'm also looking at the space we occupy as humans in this world. I think of the body, how it homes the soul, or the way the soul holds the body together. How are we placed and positioned in this current point in time and how our bodies leave thier traces in all their ephemera, in the most natural, subtle ways.

I’m attempting to create a space, an expereince rather, that belongs here, in this version of the universe, and not quite, at the same time.

I invite you into this space. Where does it end and where does it begin? How much of it can you feel? What is it thinking? What are you thinking? What does it want? Do you know what you want?
